The UK Eurovision entry 2019 has been confirmed and singer Michael Rice will be representing us in Israel.

The UK Eurovision entry 2019 was confirmed tonight and Michael Rice will be representing us in Tel Aviv, Israel in May.

The results of the UK Eurovision song selection contest aired live on Friday with Eurovision: You Decide seeing six prospective acts performing for the honour of representing the United Kingdom at Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Hosted by Mel Giedroyc and winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, Måns Zelmerlöw, the 90-minute UK Selection show was broadcast live on BBC Two from Dock10, MediaCity UK in Salford.

Rylan, Mollie King and Marvin Humes made up the UK Eurovision 2019 panel of judges for the You Decide show.

This year there was a slight twist to the format: There were six contenders but only three songs. Each song was performed by two different acts in "musically different ways".

After all six potential song and contestant combinations have performed in the 'Song-Off' the expert judges decided which three acts and version of each song would go forward to face the public vote.

In the first round, Kerrie-Anne and Anisa both performed their versions of Sweet Lies. Marvin, Mollie and Rylan all voted to send Kerrie-Anne through.

In the second round, Jordan Clarke and MAID both performed their versions of Freaks. Mollie voted to send MAID through but both Marvin and Rylan sent through Jordan.

In the third round, Michael Rice and Holly Tandy both performed their versions of Bigger Than Us. Marvin, Mollie and Rylan all voted to send Michael through.

Therefore, Kerrie-Anne, Jordan and Michael went forward to the public vote. They all performed their versions of their respective songs again before lines opened for viewers to vote for their favourite.

At the end of Eurovision: You Decide 2019, the result was revealed as it was announced Michael Rice would be the UK entry with the song Bigger Than Us.

Bigger Than Us is written by Laurell Barker, Anna-Klara Folin, John Lundvik and Jonas Thander

Michael taught himself to play piano from YouTube videos after his mum bought him a keyboard. Last year, he became the first winner of BBC One's singing show All Together Now.

Michael said about his song: "My version of Bigger Than Us is such an epic, big song with a big key change and harmonies, and I think the lyrics resonate with everyone"

The 64th Eurovision Song Contest will take place at the Expo Tel Aviv in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The Semi Finals broadcast on 14 and 16 May 2019 on BBC Four and the Grand Final will be broadcast on 18 May 2019 on BBC One.
