X Factor 2018: Tre Amici make it through after refusing to split for Simon Cowell

Trio Tre Amici made it through tonight's X Factor 2018 auditions after refusing to split for Simon Cowell.

Tre Amici are three friends LeRoy, Martin and Richard aged 36-41 years-old and from Hull.

In this evening's episode, the trio said ahead of their audition: "We're regular guys with regular day jobs. There's a close bond between us guys and whatever the outcome today we'll always come back as good friends."

They've been singing for three years and auditioned with Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma.

But Simon Cowell interrupted and said: "I don't want to be rude... I'll tell you what I think, because I've worked with groups like this before."

He then singled out LeRoy as "the one with the big voice" and asked him to sing solo.

"We auditioned as Tre Amici, we auditioned as three friends and that's what Tre Amici means," responded LeRoy.

Rather than singing alone, LeRoy instead performed again with his friends and got a standing ovation from the audience.

After, Louis Tomlinson encouraged: "You were so, so loyal throughout that and it paid off."

Ayda Williams added: "I have to say that's the most heart I've seen this entire competition. My hat is off to you. You truly are three friends."

Simon quipped: "I knew by doing this the three of you would be better... maybe I was better. You really are friends, aren't you?"

With four yeses, Tre Amici made it through to the next round.

Other contestants we met tonight included Kiki Piesare from South East London, Nuclear Power Plant worker Roy Robson and Air Conditioning Engineer Ollie Swain.

Also wanting to impress were 20-year-old Kitchen Porter Tommy Ludford from Sussex, who was hoping to win over Simon Cowell with his guitar and an original song.

Finally, there was 20-year-old Make-up Artist Scarlett Lee who first appeared on the show last year.

The X Factor airs Saturday and Sunday nights on ITV.
