Robbie and Ayda Williams are full of praise for their new X Factor boss Simon Cowell

'Candy' singer says there's no better talent judge than the Syco mogul

The X Factor 2018 stars Robbie and Ayda Williams have been learning from their new boss Simon Cowell – with the former claiming he’s “head and shoulders above” other talent judges.

As the first ever husband-and-wife duo on the ITV singing contest’s panel, Robbie and Ayda have caused the biggest stir ahead of the new series.

But while they’re new to the role, seasoned pro Simon has been a TV judge since Pop Idol, way back in 2001.

Seventeen years later, Robbie reckons there’s still no-one better at spotting new talent.

“The biggest thing I’ve learnt is that I’ve got a long way to go before I am as good as him at this job!” said the ‘Candy’ superstar.

“Look, there have been hundreds of versions of these shows and hundreds of different panels. Name me one person who is better than Simon Cowell at this job. He is head and shoulders above everybody.

“I’m just happy to sit in my seat and see how he does it, see how he forms questions, what he asks. Like I say, I’m learning a lot from him.”

Ayda has also been taking notes from the Syco mogul after observing how he “gives people their moment”.

“It’s so frustrating because he’s always right, well, 99% of the time,” she joked. “You really can’t fault him. His music choice is really great.

“I watch the way his mind works, how he starts putting people together. Just the way he thinks about things is really inspiring.”

Ayda’s involvement has caused controversy among viewers, as she is best known for being an actress.

However, Simon has defended her place on the show, claiming she brings a “different perspective” of the music industry.

The X Factor returns for its fifteenth series tomorrow and Sunday at 8.00pm on ITV.
