12 finalists remain in the competition after the second weekend saw another two contestants given the boot.
A further pair of acts will leave this weekend as the finalists sing over Saturday and Sunday night once again in their categories.
This weekend the theme is the songs of George Michael, and Sam will be singing Wham's classic I'm Your Man.
Ahead of his performance however, Sam has been forced to sit out rehearsals due to illness.
"I went to rehearsals before and my voice started going. I'm going to be on vocal rest, I think," he said yesterday.
But Sam vowed to Heatworld that he would still be hitting the stage tonight.
"No matter what I'd always go out there and do my best anyway. It's a massive risk, but that's all I can do; go out there and do my best," Sam said.
Unfortunately, Sam isn't sure his best will be good enough.
"There's a good possibility I could go this week because I'm up against the girls and Lloyd [Macey]," he said. "I feel like I'm the only one who goes out and relies on performing rather than singing, but I'm just going to do my best.
"It's tough every weekend."
Once again this week, at the end of each live show a public vote will decide which one act is immediately given the boot with the bottom two sing-off axed.
Instead, the acts who top Saturday and Sunday's vote face off in a new 'prize fight' to win a special reward.
The X Factor 2017 continues this Saturday at 8:10PM and Sunday night at 7:30PM on ITV.
Guest stars will be One Direction's Harry Styles on the Saturday and Paloma Faith on the Sunday.
