The X Factor 2018 final concluded last night with more than 5 million viewers.

An average audience of 5.5 million viewers tuned in between 7:30PM and 9PM, as the final three acts went head to head.

A peak of 7.5 million tuned in as Dalton Andre Harris was crowned the winner of The X Factor 2018 last night, beating Anthony Russell and Scarlett Lee in the final showdown.

Anthony finished in third place in the final vote while Scarlett was the runner up.

Last night’s X Factor rating was the highest of the live shows over the past seven weeks, and up almost 1.5 million viewers on Saturday’s first half of the final, where just 4.1 million viewers tuned in.

The number was up on 2017’s final, where 5.2 million watched Rak-Su crowned winners, but down on the 7 million who watched Matt Terry claim victory in 2016.

Overall, The X Factor 2018 this year averaged just below 5 million viewers based on overnight ratings – that is, excluding those watching on catch up.

The X Factor will return to ITV next autumn for what will be its sixteenth series. It’s not been confirmed if Simon Cowell, Ayda Williams, Robbie Williams and Louis Tomlinson will return as judges.

Earlier on the night on ITV last night, a repeat of the Celebrity Chase had 4.3 million viewers while I’m A Celebrity’s second elimination interested 10 million, up almost 2 million viewers on last year.

On BBC One, Strictly Come Dancing had just over 9 million viewers watching the latest shock dance off results, up on last week but down around 900,000 on last year’s equivalent show. Saturday’s live performances from the musicals themed week had seen an average audience of 10 million viewers.

After, David Attenborough’s Dynasties averaged just under 6 million viewers. While the nature documentary is proving popular it’s not matched the huge success of Blue Planet 2, which had almost 10 millions this time last year.

Both shows continue next Sunday night on BBC One.
