X Factor 2012: Jahmene Douglas challenges Ella Henderson for favourite spot

Jahmene Douglas (X Factor 2012)

Ella Henderson could lose her spot as the favourite to win The X Factor.

The 16-year-old has been the odds-on tip to win the show from the first live show, but bookies are now seeing money placed on Jahmene Douglas and James Arthur, as the competition heats up.

Ella previously confessed that being the favourite had left feeling under extra pressure to impress both the judges and viewers at home.

As it stands, Ella Henderson remains the even money favourite to win the show despite the majority of bets this week coming for Jahmene Douglas at 11/4.

Meanwhile Rylan Clark is 4/1 with Ladbrokes to perform solo on Saturday night.

Following the admission that he’d sing without any of the usual stage show associated with his performances the bookies also offer 10/1 Barlow is moved to give the 50/1 outsider a standing ovation following his performance.

Rylan is the joint 3/1 favourite to leave as the elimination betting market remains one of the closest ever in X Factor history. Four hopefuls have odds to go of 4/1 or less with Lucy Spraggan 11/2 to be booted out after her return from illness.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Rylan has pledged to lay his voice bare this weekend and it could be the undoing of him. Unless he pulls it out of the bag his odds to go are likely to tumble fast.”

He added: “Ella remains the favourite but we now can’t rule out Jahmene overtaking her. All the momentum is with the Swindon soul sensation.”

Real Jahmene fans want him to be runner-up, so he gets to sing all the way through the show but doesn’t get forced into the standard Cowell recording contract. There’s a lot of money waiting for Jahmene in the USA; with just one album on the right contract he could put his Mum in life-long independence and financial safety. His second album would do the same for him.
