X Factor 2018: Ricky John makes judges’ houses after ‘Golden X’ twist

Ricky John has guaranteed himself a place at the X Factor 2018 judges’ houses this year.

This weekend is another X Factor double bill as we start the Six Chair Challenge.

The acts in each category are performing one at a time with a hopefully killer song choice, singing for their mentor, the other judges and a live audience at Wembley.

As always in the six chair challenge, only their that has the power. They’ll decide who to place in a seat, representing a spot at judges’ houses.

But as more acts perform, they risk being swapped out and losing their place in the next round. Only those left sitting down once everyone has performed will be safe and in with a chance of making it through to The X Factor 2018 live shows.

However this year for the Six Chair Challenge each of the judges has one Guaranteed Safe Seat to give away.

If the judge likes an act enough they can hit a golden X and give that act a Safe Seat – putting them straight through to judges’ houses.

In the spotlight on Saturday were the Overs with Ayda Williams.

We met 36 year old carpenter Ricky John who had previously impressed the panel with his emotional audition

Ricky performed Sam Cooke’s Change is Gunna Come, revealing: “I was actually, without going into too much, homeless for eight years so I really needed a change to come.”

In tonight’s show, he said: “I know that I’m not going to get many more shots like this in life. I need to go out there and really prove my worth and show what I can do.”

“I need to make my family proud, that’d be a dream for me,” he added.

Ricky sang Otis Redding’s Try a Little Tenderness for his chance to make it through.

It saw mentor Ayda hit the golden X, securing Ricky a place at judges’ houses.

The X Factor 2018 Six Chair Challenge continues Sunday night at 8PM on ITV.
