X Factor 2018: Duo A-Star get the ‘Golden X’ from Robbie Williams
New X Factor duo A-Star have a place at judges’ houses after tonight’s Six Chair Challenge.
This evening was the last instalment of the Six Chair Challenge that determined who made judges’ houses.
Last weekend saw Ayda Williams and her Overs and Simon Cowell and the Girls complete their line ups.
This evening, Louis Tomlinson continued with his Boys before Robbie Williams rounded things off with the Groups.
As always, all the acts were wanting to secure one of six seats in their category at judges’ houses.
But this year saw a new golden X twist that allowed one act to be put straight through the next round. They were placed in a safe seat and can’t be swapped out for another act.
This evening saw A STAR, made up of Aaliyah Robinson and Acacia K, given the golden X by Robbie.
They first performed Montell Jordan’s This Is How We Do It before Robbie asked them to return to their audition song, Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj’s Bang Bang.
He then invited the pair’s parents up on stage to hit the Golden X, securing the pair a place in the judges’ houses.
Simon Cowell previously paired up the teenagers to make a new act after they originally auditioned as solo acts.
14-year-old student Aaliyah was first onto the stage at auditions earlier this year, singing AWOLNATION’s Sail.
However she was asked to return with another track after Simon said: “I don’t think you’ve come with the right song. You’re better than those songs.”
Next on to the stage was 15-year-old Acacia K, a student from Leyland, Manchester who promised to “smash it”. Acacia sang Nicki Minaj and Skylar Grey’s Bed of Lies for the judges.
Like Aaliyah, Acacia K was told her song choice wasn’t right prompting Simon to suggest: “Can I have a word backstage?”
Behind the scenes, Simon paired up the girls and invited them to return together.
Other groups singing for Robbie in tonight’s show were the LMA Choir, ATTY, Tre Amici and Misunderstood.
We also met some groups for the first time, including The Squirrels, Harry & Danny, Lost Tiger, Sweet Sense and The Hewitts.
Plus, there was new group Vibe5 and Panda & Burgandy, who were rejected by Ayda last week as soloists in the Overs category.
The X Factor returns at 8PM on Sunday with the first round of judges’ houses.
