The BBC has ordered two more series of Waterloo Road, with filming set to begin in Greater Manchester later this year.
The school-based drama has been a hit since its 2023 reboot, becoming one of iPlayer’s top-performing titles among under-35s.
The show has explored everything from the cost-of-living crisis and coercive control to young love and workplace politics.
The new run will follow next month’s series, which brings back familiar faces including Adam Thomas, Angela Griffin, Katie Griffiths, Chelsee Healey, Lauren Drummond and Jason Merrells, alongside new cast members.
Comedian Jon Richardson will make his debut as the school’s new media studies teacher, following in the footsteps of Jason Manford’s head teacher role in a previous series.
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama said: “I’m delighted that Waterloo Road will be opening its corridors once again, with two more series of the hit drama about to start filming.
“The show continues to entertain the audience who love to follow both the staff and pupils and, with a new series heading to BBC iPlayer and BBC One next month, they don’t have long to wait!”
The next series of Waterloo Road premieres on BBC One and iPlayer next month, with the newly commissioned episodes set to follow in 2026.
