Watch a First Look at Diane Morgan’s New BBC Comedy

The BBC has shared a first look at Ann Droid,its new comedy coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this July, starring and written by Diane Morgan.

Working alongside Sarah Kendall, Diane brings her signature dry wit back to screens with this six-part series, starting Friday, 17 July at 9:30PM on BBC One and iPlayer.

Ann Droid sees Sue Johnston taking on the role of Sue, a recently widowed woman whose only son Michael, played by Paul Ready, is once again attempting to fix his marriage and move out on his mum.

Michael thinks he’s solved a problem by gifting Sue an AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot – one with an uncanny resemblance to Diane herself.

This second-hand robot, Linda, is designed to keep older people company and help manage their health, all while lightening the load on the NHS.

Sue may initially be horrified by her new robotic carer – described as “an overly attentive, socially inept pain in the arse” – but she quickly learns that she can use the android’s quirks to her own advantage, from running errands to settling old scores.

As each episode unfolds, the unlikely pair slowly form a friendship – and Sue discovers that Linda’s technical skills can’t always make up for her lack of social graces.
