''Eastenders'' controversial baby-swap plot deservedly up for an award at British Soap Awards

Eastenders have been nominated for a top soap accolade for their controversial baby-swap storyline which recieved over 6,000 complaints from viewers.  The storyline started on New Year's Eve as viewers watched in shock as popular Ronnie Branning (Samantha Womack) swapped her dead baby James for little Tommy Moon, the son of Kat and Alfie Moon (Jessie Wallace and Shane Ritchie).

Despite the high volume of complaints, many viewers were captivated by the terrific performances from leading ladies Samantha Womack and Jessie Wallace in paticular and gave us one of the sweetest Walfrod scenes of all time (which is in a video below). For that reason, bosses at the British Soap Awards have shortlisted it in the Best Storyline category alongside Karen's Abortion in Doctors, Sally and Kevin's marriage split in Corrie and Holly's drug addiction in Emmerdale.

Over 11.1 million viewers tuned in to see the storyline at its peak and just last month, we all breathed a sigh of relief as Ronnie handed the baby back to Kat and revealed all. The BBC soap is hoping to scoop the prize for the second time in a row on May 14 after they won last year for the ''Who Killed Archie?'' story. Overall 18 awards will be handed out on the night and below we reveal a few stories and actors we want to be recognized.

The Best Single Episode surely has to go to the fantastic live episode of Coronation Street to celebrate its 50th year in December. Meanwhile, we want the lovely Claire Cooper to win Best Dramatic Performance for her portrayal of Jacqui Mc Queen who believed she had been raped by Gilly Roach (Anthony Quinlan). Other wins should go to Bill Tarmey for Best Exit as Weatherfield's Jack Duckworth shuffled off this mortal coil in November, Pauline Quirke should win Best Newcomer as lovely Hazel Rhodes has settled in nicely in Emmerdale. Finally, we would love the legendary Jane Cox to win Best Actress for the fantastic job she does as Lisa Dingle especially this year as poor Lisa was raped by her colleague.

Five Categories - Best Villain, Best Actor, Sexiest Male, Sexiest Female and Best Actress will be decided by us the viewers alongside Best Soap which is not shortlisted whilst the other categories will be chosen by a panel of esteemed professionals meaning Eastenders are sure to be in with quite a shot of deservedly winning the gong for the plot. ''Oh and what about the lovely scene you mentioned earlier?'', we hear you say.

Here it is in all its adorable glory:
