We love getting to see what some of our favourite reality show contestants get up to after the lights have faded and the stage is empty.
We were understandably intrigued when we were given this in our inbox from none other than Ben Kelly, one of the most interesting contestants from last year's debut series of The Voice UK. The Derry-born singer-songwriter who shot to fame with his impressive Blind Audition of Elton John's 'Rocket Man' was recently signed to the newly formed label Walled City Records.
The Northern Ireland label is owned by Oran O'Carroll and winner of The Glee Project and subsequent star of the hit US series, Damien McGinty. Kelly has already racked up over a million hits on his You Tube channel with his covers and this song could be set to equal more success.
'Home' is Ben's self-written celebration of his hometown which is preparing for the first UK City Of Culture year in 2013. He has already performed the track at a number of City Of Culture events in Derry and also had the chance to perform in front of The Queen at a Jubilee Party in Belfast earlier this year.
Produced by D:Ream frontman Peter Cunnah who has been working closely with Ben on his forthcoming EP, 'Home' combines a classic ballad with a contemporary setting and is reinforced by the brilliant video, which was shot by Jenny May Finn and sets archive footage of Derry from the past 50 years with the modern city it now is.
'Home' is available to download on iTunes, Amazon or Spotify. Meanwhile, any Northern Irish readers who are interested in seeing Ben live can purchase tickets for a gig in The Nerve Centre on December 21st featuring Ben, and his label owner Damien McGinty.
