Victoria Wood’s dinnerladies To Make Return With New Stage Show

One of Victoria Wood’s most loved comedies is making a long-awaited return, with dinnerladies set to be brought to the stage for the very first time.

The hit sitcom will tour the UK in 2027 in a brand-new production, marking the first ever adaptation of Victoria Wood’s work to be officially commissioned by her estate.

Originally broadcast between 1998 and 2000, dinnerladies became a British comedy favourite thanks to its unforgettable characters, sharp wit and heartfelt stories, all set inside the canteen of a fictional Manchester factory.

Despite running for just 16 episodes, it remains one of Victoria Wood’s most celebrated creations.

The stage version will feature a new story inspired by the original television series, adapted by Beth and Emma Kilcoyne and directed by Sean Foley.

Les Dennis has been announced as the first cast member, taking on the role of maintenance man Stan.

Dennis said: “I’m lucky enough to say I knew Victoria – she and I performed on the comedy circuit in the 1970s and were both finalists on New Faces.

“I was always such a fan of her – both as a person, and as a comedic voice. Being part of this tour and seeing these beloved northern working-class characters brought to the stage is a perfect way to keep her legacy alive. I’m the first cast member to be announced as Stan, and I can’t wait to see which fantastic actresses will be bringing these amazing dinnerladies characters to life – they’re all such fantastic roles.

“I think fans of Victoria will be in for a real treat after hearing director Sean Foley’s plans for this tour!”

The tour opens in January 2027 before visiting theatres across the UK, with more casting still to be announced.
