The boss in charge of entertainment at ITV has blasted reports suggesting the show's ratings are in "crisis". Director of entertainment Elaine Bedell has praised the latest series of the show - now in its eighth year - for attracting more younger viewers.
Branding criticism of the show “ludicrous”, Bedall said that critics of the porogramme were "on another planet" in a chat with industry website Broadcast.
“The X Factor is – by some way – the most successful entertainment show in the UK and, apart from the royal wedding, the biggest show this year. It hasexceeded all of our expectations,” she said.
And Bedell also quashed rumours that Simon Cowell would be returning any time soon, saying it was “very doubtful” he would be back before the final.
The TV boss also praised the judges, includng Tulisa for her "rawness" on the panel.
