Simon Cowell threatens to scrap The X Factor if judges don't improve

Simon Cowell

Tough talking Simon Cowell has threatened the crew of The X Factor - including the judges - that the show will be completely axed if they don't manage to improve ratings. With figures their worst in almost four years, the X Factor boss is not at all happy with the team.

He supposedly ranted at the show's senior production team in a phone call from the states: "Sort this mess our or I'll kill off the show for good."

A show insider revealed to Closer magazine: "Simon is livid. He's worked so hard to make The X Factor a success, but not it seems to be falling apart at the seams.

"Simon has watched all the tapes. The only judge he feels is delivering is Gary Barlow. He's warned Louis, Kelly and Tulisa that their jobs are on the line and they have to up their game."

And the source admitted: "He's privately said that if the show continues the way it’s going, he'll pull the plug at the end of the series and bring out something new - without any of the judges bar Gary."

We actually quite like the sound of something new! But it doesn’t seem like Simon will have the time for it, with the music mogul still struggling to win over the US audience to the show. The X Factor USA kicked off its live finals this week with around 11 million viewers, well down on the 20 million expectations.

Critics have also panned the series - including Brit host Steve Jones and Cheryl Cole's replacement Nicole Scherzinger - causing yet more headaches for Simon.

A source said: "The atmosphere on X Factor on both sides of the world is tense, it's like a ticking time bomb - and no knows what will happen next."

We can't wait to find out...
