X Factor 2011: Rhythmix to change their name after trademark row

We've been covering the legal battle between X Factor girl group Rhythmix and the charity of the same name for a few weeks now, and today it was announced that the group will be changing their name.

A spokesperson for the show confirmed: "At the request of the charity Rhythmix, the members of the girl group Rhythmix have decided to change their name, a decision which has the support of Syco and TalkbackTHAMES."

They added: "The group's new name will be announced in due course".

The girls - Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirwell and Leigh-Anne Pinnock - were formed at bootcamp came up with the name before they were aware of the charity and a name search showed there were no legal problems with it as a group name.

However the charity has suggested it could still interfere with their work and has asked for the name to be changed.

As the girls, along with Syco and TalkbackTHAMES, are supportive of charitable causes and this charity's work and do not wish to cause the charity any difficulties, they have decided to make this change.
