X Factor 2011: Show bosses 'put pressure' on Tulisa to be more controversial

Tulisa Contostavlos

X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos has been put under pressure by the show's bosses to be more controversial on the show, it has been claimed. According to new! magazine the 23-year-old is not being herself at all on the show.

It comes after the singer made an outburst at Misha Bryan at the weekend, claiming the 19-year-old was being "mean" to other contestants.

She told the teenager after her performance on Saturday night: “There is no doubt about it, when it comes to talent you are way up there. Most people they come into the competition and they to be built up and progress but you came as a whole package and you are definitely the star of the show.

“But I do have one negative this week. I think you are very competitive and I’ve seen a different side of you backstage and you don’t realise that you do it, but in some ways you being so feisty can come across as quite mean to certain contestants. I’ve been told by a few this week there’s been a few mean comments towards them.

“I’m not putting you down but take that feistiness and energy when you get on the stage and leave them all behind, Put aside the attitude.”

But sources pointed out how the show's producers had been forcing the often feisty hip hop songstress to be more controversial on the show.

A source told new! magazine: "Tulisa is not herself at all.

"Show bosses are putting her under pressure to be more controversial in front of cameras to try and get things going. She is trying her best, but she appears to be getting very tearful and snappy whenever there are any issues with the other judges."

Despite Tulisa's best efforts however ratings for the show continued to fall over the weekend, with Saturday's rock themed show seeing fewer than 10 million viewers tune in.

An insider added to The Sun: “Imagine a zeppelin plummeting to Earth in flames, on a collision course with an ammunition dump. That’s this series of X Factor.”
