Sami Brookes has become the latest contestant to be eliminated from The X Factor 2011 in this evening’s third live show. The 31-year-old, who was mentored by Louis, found herself in the bottom two alongside Kitty Brucknell.
It was a surprise result to see Kitty in the bottom two, with bookies and our own polls all predicting a face-off between Sami and Frankie Cocozza. With the sleazy teenager through - to boos from the crowd - it was down to the sing-off for both of Louis' acts.
In the final showdown, Kitty performed Edge of Glory by Lady GaGa, while Sami tackled Aretha Franklin's A Natural Woman
Gary said: “Can I first just say... what a sing off. Both acts... unbelievable. This is tough... Sami, that voice is undeniable, but I've found you a bit date. Kitty, I'm excited by you. I've made a decision... the act I'm sending home tonight is Sami."
Kelly added: "May I just say you are both so talented, you both can sing and make people look at you just when you sing. This is really hard, Sami I absolutely adore, you, Kitty I think you're a wonderful entertainer... but the person I'm sending home is Sami."
Tulisa: "I've got to go with my heart and the person I want to listen to the most so the act I'm sending home tonight is Kitty."
Left with the casting vote, Louis - mentor to both acts - added: “I love both girls, Kitty, I love working with you, you are very talented... but you're not connecting with the audience. Sami, in the sing-off, you were incredible. I don't know... do I go with my head or my heart?
"I am not going to cop out, the person I have to send home tonight is Sami."
Speaking to Dermot after being eliminated, Sami said: "This experience has just been amazing, I may not be able to sell a million albums as Gary said, but I am going to sing for the rest of my life. Thank you so much for this opportunity."
