X Factor 2011: Janet's grandad would've wanted her to sing, says mum

Janet Devlin's mum has said that the youngster's grandad would've wanted her to continue on singing this weekend. The teenager will perform on tomorrow night's show, deciding to miss the funeral of her 83-year-old 'Granda' who passed away on Wednesday.

Mum Patricia told the Daily Mirror today: “It all happened so fast so we really weren’t expecting it and of course Janet was very shocked.

“But I have been assured she is being looked after and it’s best she stays in London.

X Factor said she could fly straight home but Michael wouldn’t have wanted that, he was her biggest fan and he was backing her every step of the way."

And she revealed: “It’s tough because Michael was here on Sunday night watching the results show and he was so proud.

“Then he was rushed into hospital on Tuesday and put on life support and he died on Wednesday night.”

To make a tough week even more emotional for Janet, this weekend the performances will be on a theme of 'Love and Heartbreak'.

An X Factor spokeswoman said: “Janet’s grandad passed away so she isn’t just feeling herself but she’s had a chat with her family and they have decided she has to perform.”
