Parents of axed X Factor act Amelia Lily have hit out at the show' s producers - including Simon Cowell - and branded the twist that left Amelia eliminated as "disgusting". Speaking after Sunday's show, Barry and Aranka Oliver hit out at the "cruel" change to the show's format.
We saw the four judges on Sunday night's show asked to eliminate one of their own acts as host Dermot O'leary asked them each for the names of the singers they wanted to see continue in the competition. With Kelly Rowland naming Sophie Habibis, Misha Bryan and Janet Devlin, it meant an early exit for favourite Amelia Lily.
Mum Aranka blasted: "What’s happened is so cruel, it’s disgusting. We are very upset by it all. The rule to kick a contestant from each category out was thrown on everyone so unexpectedly.
"You have to wonder whose decision it was, and why they did it – maybe it was [executive producer] Simon Cowell’s."
Speaking to the Daily Mail, she added: "I know it’s a competition, but I don’t know why the contestants are built up so much and then so easily dropped.
"You have to expect ups and downs in the entertainment industry, but this was very cruel. The contestants are put in a vulnerable position."
Dad Barry added: "The way she lost her place was just a very harsh way for the show to do it. They feed the kids this and that and lead them up the garden path."
Amelia herself has also been very vocal about the twist, saying it was like "having her heart ripped out."
