X Factor 2011: Gary Barlow warns finalists the competition is about to become "ruthless"

It sounds like it's about to heat up on The X Factor over these coming weeks, with new judge Gary Barlow warning the remaining hopefuls the competition is about to become "very ruthless." Tomorrow and Sunday night we'll see which of 16 singers have made the cut to judges' houses, but they'll have no time to relax...

This time next week they'll be counting down the hours until their first live performance, as well over 10 million viewers tune in to watch them sing to stay in the show.

“This is the point where it gets really, really serious and the competition becomes very ruthless.” Gary tells TV buzz magazine this week.

“We’ve seen talent and we’ve seen them do great performances, but this is where they should come out of their body and really show us what they’re about.”

But despite his rather intense warnings, Gary insisted that the contestants should be looking forward to the live shows.

“They should be excited – they’ve got the doorway to the live show so they should be buzzing” he added. “They certainly shouldn’t be fearing this.”

Not sure they'll be agreeing with you Gary!
