X Factor winner Shayne Ward to set the West End alight in 'Rock Of Ages'

Shayne Ward

Winner of The X Factor 2005 Shayne Ward has quickly moved on from being dropped by Syco, now aiming to set the West End alight in musical 'Rock Of Ages'. Described as a "UK pop superstar" by the press release (?!), Shayne will take on the role of disillusioned rock bad boy Stacee Jaxx.

26-year-old Shayne has apparently become one of the "UK’s premiere vocal talents" since taking part in The X Factor 6 years ago now. The Manchester-born singer started off with a very successful career after first winning, but his latest album release last November sold poorly and he was eventually dropped earlier this year.

Talking about his move from pop music to the West End, Shayne said: “I cannot wait to take to the stage for Rock of Ages, it’s an absolute thrill to have been chosen for this part and can’t wait to show a new side to my voice. West End – prepare to rock!”

Rock of Ages is described as "the ultimate ‘80’s rock mix-tape musical’", promising a "rip-roaring, hilarious story of hedonism, dreams, love and of course ROCK!"

The world wide musical hit is currently being turned into a movie for 2012 releasing staring Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta Jones. Tom Cruise will be playing the role of Stacee Jaxx in the big screen adaption, which will be directed by Adam Shankman.
