Joe McElderry 'devastated' over being dropped by Simon Cowell's label

Joe McElderry is said to be 'devastated' over the news that he has been dropped by Simon Cowell's Syco record label after just one album. TellyMix revealed earlier this week that The X Factor 2009 winner had been quietly let go by the music boss after poor sales of his debut album.

Despite reaching the top spot in the charts, the album quickly fell and follow up singles did little to help sales, with 'Someone Wake Me Up' reaching just 68 in the charts.

A friend of Joe's said today: "Joe is devastated. His mum has been comforting him. He believed he could have a great music career.

"Although he is still on Syco's books, his deal runs out in about a month and it won't be renewed."

A source added: "Simon gave Joe the best chance possible of success by making sure he worked with some of the world's top producers. Joe's a lovely boy and it is a pity it did not work out, but no one can say Simon and his staff did not try to make it work."

The news makes Joe McElderry the latest male X Factor winner to be dropped, following in the steps of Steve Brookstien, Shayne Ward and Leon Jackson. Looks like Matt Cardle has an uphill battle on his hands then

There is better news for runner up Olly Murs however, who is set to release a second album with Epic later this year.
