Channel 4 has confirmed that The Crystal Maze IS returning to our screens after 21 years - with Stephen Merchant as its new presenter.
Earlier this week The Sun reported that bosses were planning a revival of the classic gameshow, and wanted David Tennant to front it.
The first part of that story has turned out to be true, with Channel 4 announcing today that The Crystal Maze will return for a one-off celebrity special in October as part of this year's Stand Up To Cancer charity campaign.
However, it is in fact former The Office star Stephen who has been hired as its new host.
The comedian said: "As a huge fan of the original series, I’m honoured to support Stand Up To Cancer by hosting this one-off edition of The Crystal Maze.
"Richard O’Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole leave big shoes to fill, but I have size 14 feet, so I’ll do my best."
Ed Havard, Channel 4's Head of TV Events, added: "We wanted something extra special for the Stand Up To Cancer campaign this year, so we’re delighted that Crystal Maze will be returning for a celebrity one-off."
The special will be filmed at the The Crystal Maze Live Experience in London, which opened earlier this year after a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.
The show, which involves contestants navigating through four zones to earn time for their final challenge in the Crystal Dome, originally ran between 1990 and 1995.
Other programmes forming part of this year's Stand Up To Cancer include a celebrity version of The Island with Bear Grylls.
