BBC One comedy Hold The Sunset is back tonight but who’s on the cast for series 2 and what’s it all about?

In series 1 of Hold The Sunset, we met Edith (Alison Steadman), for whom life is pretty good. She’s been a widow for some years now, but her children live locally and drop by regularly, and she enjoys daily visits from Phil (John Cleese), an old boyfriend who now lives across the road.

The end of the first series saw Edith (Alison Steadman) and Phil (John Cleese) still planning to move abroad, but with Edith’s 50 year-old son Roger (Jason Watkins) showing no signs of leaving home or reuniting with his estranged wife Wendy (Rosie Cavaliero), is their dream of a sunset happy ever after slipping ever further away?

Alongside Edith (Alison Steadman), Phil (John Cleese) and Roger (Jason Watkins), other characters and cast include Queenie (Anne Reid) and Wendy (Rosie Cavaliero).

Joining the cast this series 2 are are actress Sue Johnston as Edith’s impossible sister Joan; Christian Brassington as hopeless estate agent Percy; and Shauna MacDonald as Bob’s irrepressible and individual daughter Georgie

The third episode of the new series, Aunty Joan, airs tonight at 9PM on Friday, August 16.

Edith is finding her irritating sister Joan very difficult, and Roger, impatient to help Phil sell his house, decides to help by checking his roof for dry rot.

Wendy drops in on Edith and mentions that she is writing a children’s book: she doesn’t know exactly what it will be about, but it may involve a complicated family.

Hold The Sunset airs tonight at 9PM on BBC One. Series 2 has six episodes.

You can watch episodes online and catch up on Series 1 via the BBC iPlayer.
