Eurovision 2019: Bad news for UK’s entry Michael Rice

It’s Eurovision 2019 tonight but the odds of a UK victory look as long as ever.

The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest is in full swing with both semi-finals out of the way – and Bookmakers BetVictor have the latest odds on who is favourite to win the competition to help you with “Making Your Mind Up”.

It makes grim reading for the United Kingdom, who are one of the least fancied nations to win, having dropped from 150/1 to 200/1 after the second semi-final.

In fact, the United Kingdom, who have not won since 1997 and are represented this year by Michael Rice, are 5/1 to finish last.

A BetVictor spokesperson said: “It’s been 22 years of hurt since the United Kingdom’s last victory in the Eurovision Song Contest and that run looks set to continue on Saturday night. A finish towards the bottom could be likely once more.”

Netherlands are the favourites and lead the way at 8/13, with Australia next in line at 5/1, while Sweden follow close behind at 8/1 to win the 64th Eurovision Song Contest.

Hosts Israel may have won the competition last year, but they are one of the least fancied nations at 250/1.

The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, which is taking place in Tel Aviv, Israel, continues with the final on May 18.

Ahead of the live show, Rylan Clark-Neal says it’s better for the UK to have low expectations.

Rylan, who will give the UK’s results after co-hosting the semi-finals, said: “It’s been a massively long time since we won and, do you know what, going into Eurovision as the UK, we should never expect to win — that’s the perfect mindset for us.”

He told The Sun newspaper: “We are all very much on a level that it’s about having fun and taking in the bonkers side to the whole thing.

“It’s always been about some quite special staging and odd songs, and this year definitely hasn’t dropped that bar — it’s definitely still the weird and wonderful world of Eurovision.”

Eurovision 2019 airs at 8PM on BBC One.
