The husband and wife pair have announced their intention to step down from the series after one year.

The couple made the announcement today on their Instagram pages, blaming busy schedules.

“We’ve got some very big announcements coming soon – but we can’t reveal all yet,” they wrote, “Sadly as it’s impossible to do everything, we’re gutted to tell you we won’t be able to return to The X Factor this year.”

They added: “We will be working on projects with Simon going forward – and as huge fans of the show, we will still be tuning into The X Factor, voting and winding Simon up!”

The news follows One Direction star Louis Tomlinson admitting he may not be back on the show either.

Louis, Ayda and Robbie made up last year’s panel alongside show boss Simon Cowell.

In an interview on ITV’s Lorraine this week, Louis said he hoped to focus on the release of his album this year.

The singer revealed: “Simon hasn’t called me yet.

“I had an amazing experience on the show last year, but if it’s going to get in the way of my mission for this year, which is releasing the album, then it’s probably going to be less likely.’

The X Factor is set to see a huge shake-up this year, with Simon Cowell announcing plans for both a Celebrity and All Star version of X Factor, in place of the regular series.

The TV chief has said he hopes for The X Factor would broadcast two separate shows back to back this autumn, one seeing celebrities compete and the other featuring a line up of past contestants.

Simon described the upcoming series as a “huge change”, continuing: “We haven’t exactly confirmed the dates or the order of the shows, but essentially there are going to be two versions of X Factor running this year.

“I think it’s going to be huge, it’s the best I’ve felt about this show in years.”

There have already been rumours about stars who could take part, with Simon hoping David Walliams will sign up.
