Robbie Williams has reportedly been feeling his age at The X Factor 2018 auditions – as some of the younger hopefuls don’t know who he is.
Robbie is one of the UK’s most successful pop stars of all time, having sold over 75million records worldwide.
All but one of his albums have topped the UK charts, and he has received a record 18 BRIT Awards.
However, it seems none of that matters to some of the wannabes trying out for The X Factor this year.
Robbie has joined the judging panel for the ITV talent contest’s latest run, alongside his wife, Ayda Field.
But younger contestants have reportedly been more impressed with fellow newbie Louis Tomlinson, who has also enjoyed tremendous success with boyband One Direction.
A behind-the-scenes source told the Daily Star: “A lot of the kids auditioning for X Factor were not born when Take That were huge and were not around when Robbie launched his solo career.
“They are more thrilled to see Louis Tomlinson from 1D as it’s more relevant to their growing up.”
According to the newspaper, Robbie was affronted when one contestant cited 1D as their ‘inspiration’.
The ‘Kids’ singer is quoted as telling her: “Hi. My name is Robbie Williams. I used to be in a band called Take That. Your parents will know me.”
Ayda then poked fun at her hubby, joking: “More like her grandparents.”
Later, when Ayda referenced Take That’s 1991 single ‘Do What You Like’, Robbie apparently responded: “There’s not a single person in this room old enough to know that song.”
The story comes after it was reported that Robbie gave his DAD a turn at the judges’ desk.
The Sun claims he swapped places with his old man, Pete Conway, in the audience when he fancied a break.
Robbie, Ayda and Louis are joined by X Factor boss Simon Cowell for the new series, which begins next month.
Sharon Osbourne will also be back for the live shows only as an impartial fifth judge.
