Tonight’s latest instalment of the game show saw one contestant make it through to the final chase.

Maggie was playing for £50,000 but lost it all after being caught by Anne Hegerty – aka The Governess – at the last second.

However some viewers hit out at host Bradley Walsh, accusing him of helping Anne by reading her questions quicker.

“If Bradley were to read the questions at the same speed for a chaser and contestant, Maggie would have gone home with £50k. #thechase,” one viewer wrote.

“I agree – he totally rushed that question!!” said another.

A third added: “#TheChase Bradley speaks much faster for the chasers than the contestants. Listen how fast he gave that question at the end. Maggie was robbed”

A spokesperson for ITV denied the claims and said all the results were verified by an adjudicator.

Despite missing out on the cash, Maggie still won praise from viewers and the other chasers.

Mark Labbett tweeted: “Great contestants make for great shows. More like Maggie please! #thechase.”

The Chase continues weekdays at 5PM on ITV.

Now in its eighth year and and having reached over 1000 episodes, The Chase has seen global success, with versions now being made in 11 countries.

In the UK, The Chase is regularly watched by over 3 million viewers each day and previously won a National Television Award for ‘Best Daytime Show’.

In each episode, four contestants first individually take part in a ‘cash builder’ round. They must answer a series of general knowledge questions to build up a pot of money.

However, they must attempt to get their tactics right as they face one of The Chasers, and make it back safe with the cash.

Those who don’t get caught go into the final chase as a group, where they will then face the chaser once again for the chance to walk away with an equal share of the prize.
