Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway was broken its viewing figure records – just two weeks into the new series.

Saturday Night Takeaway returned at the end of February for its latest series with over 7 million viewers watching on the night.

Now official consolidated figures, which include those who tuned in via catch up, have taken that total to 9 million.

It makes it the most watched episode of the show, ever.

“The entire team is absolutely thrilled,” a source told The Sun newspaper. “Everyone works incredibly hard to create the show in the hope that viewers will love every second – and it’s great to see that the nation is hooked.

“The team is the strongest it’s ever been with Scarlett also making her mark on the series.

“It’s clear that the audience can see how much everyone involved enjoys making the show and hopefully that’s what has made it a huge success.”

The current record could well be broken after the landmark 100th episode aired last Saturday night.

A huge overnight audience of more than 7.8 million viewers tuned in to watch Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway last night.

The average audience was up 200,000 on the previous weekend’s opener with a huge peak of 9 million watching the show’s landmark 100th episode on the evening.

The figure is up 800,000 on last year’s equivalent instalment, even before catchup viewers are included.

Saturday Night Takeaway, which also stars Stephen Mulhern and Scarlett Moffatt, continues this Saturday night.

The series of seven episodes will end in April with a huge finale live from Florida.
