Marcella continues to ITV tonight for its second series - who's on the cast and what's it all about?
Written by internationally renowned screenwriter and novelist Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) and starring International Emmy award winning Anna Friel (The Girlfriend Experience, Broken, American Odyssey) Marcella returns to ITV.
The eight-part second series is once again set in contemporary London and the new series unfolds in the unique style of Rosenfeldt’s Nordic style.
Interweaving storylines and characters from all different walks of life and backgrounds will lead the audiences on a complex and emotional journey and keep them guessing until the very end, say ITV.
Marcella series 2 cast
Returning alongside Anna Friel as the lead Marcella, in the highly praised drama are Ray Panthaki (One Crazy Thing), Nicholas Pinnock (Fortitude, Guerrilla), Jamie Bamber (Fearless, NCIS) and Jack Doolan (White Gold).

Marcella series 2 spoilers
Series 2's sstory begins with the discovery of a body inside a wall. The body is clothed in a school blazer and surrounded by soft toys; a devastated Marcella soon works out that the body is that of schoolboy Leo Priestley, who was abducted a few years beforehand and a friend of Marcella’s son, Edward.
Tonight, Kevin Hoffs and his blue lorry are found abandoned in a lay by. Leann informs Marcella that the lorry had been there for 36 hours.
After analysing Adam’s phone records, the team become aware that Adam had contacted the KidsCall helpline. Marcella heads there to retrieve the records and Maya is helpful despite both women having Tim Williamson in common. From Adam’s records they see that he’d admitted to being abused by his father but his father has alibis for many incidents surrounding the case.
Retracing the route of the lorry and the car from the train crash, the team are able to deduce the area in which Adam was picked up and the lorry was stolen. Officers are dispatched to the area and come across an old abandoned house with a bloody handprint on the door.
What they find inside the house shocks Marcella and Rav to their core as the true scale of the killer’s crimes become apparent.
Marcella spots a neighbouring house and heads to talk to the occupier, Nigel Stafford. But Nigel is intent on not helping the police.
The team get an ID on one of the other victims and head to see the person the victim was last seen with, Vince Whitman. Meanwhile another child’s disappearance links back to the businessman but it appears that Eric is also involved.
In a hypnosis session, Marcella regresses to the moment where she found Grace Gibson’s body and her actions afterwards shock her.
Two teenage boys recognise that they’ve filmed one of their ‘haunted’ ghost videos in the abandoned house. In an attempt to get rich quick, they sell their video to the internet media company, Postfeed24.
Edward’s descent takes another dark turn and causes damage in his relationship with Samantha.
Meanwhile Jojo’s desperation to have a child becomes apparent as she records a video diary for the unborn baby, as Sascha enacts Maya’s plan.
Reg tells Alan that he wants to come clean to the police. Despite Reg’s plea that he’ll only implicate himself and Alan is worried.
Marcella airs tonight at 9PM on ITV.
