Dermot O'Leary says viewers will relate to the couples on 'The Marriage Ref'

We can't usually expect to see Dermot O'Leary on Saturday nights on ITV1 until The X Factor is back in August, but the Radio 2 DJ has got his own new show - and it starts this weekend! The Marriage Ref will see rowing couples ask Dermot and his panellists to sort out their arguments.

Speaking about his new show, Dermot said he expected that viewers would be able to relate to the couples appearing on the programme.

"The Marriage Ref is a light-hearted, studio-based entertainment show with couples discussing the squabbles within their relationship," Dermot explained, "I think viewers will find it funny, and will find themselves relating to the arguments.

"We've got everything, including a couple who squabbles over Bubbles the cat, as the husband thinks he comes second. There's another husband whose wife wants him to stop acting like a teenager and ditch his skateboards. They're not serious domestic disputes, but little disputes, which all loving couples have."

Speaking to What's On TV about landing the new show, Dermot revealed: "I saw the American version when I was in the States with my girlfriend (TV producer Dee Koppang) and we absolutely loved it. So when I found out it was coming to the UK I knew I wanted to be first in line to present it! It's a Jerry Seinfeld creation and I'm a huge fan of his."

The Marriage Ref airs on Saturday night at 9PM on ITV1.
