Collateral is described by the BBC as a “gripping, high-octane thriller set in present day London”, from pre-eminent playwright David Hare and starring Academy-Award nominee Carey Mulligan (An Education, The Great Gatsby, Suffragette).

Set over the course of four days, the four-part drama explores the spiraling repercussions surrounding the fatal shooting of a pizza delivery man. Refusing to accept this is a random act of senseless violence, tough and single-minded Detective Inspector Kip Glaspie (Mulligan) is determined to discover if there is a darker truth.

Collateral cast

Alongside Carey Mulligan as DI Kip, the ensemble cast will also include John Simm (Life On Mars, State Of Play) as David Mars, Nicola Walker (Spooks, Last Tango In Halifax) as Jane Oliver, and Billie Piper (Doctor Who, Penny Dreadful) as Karen Mars who most recently won multiple awards for her on-stage role in Yerma at the Young Vic. Acclaimed director SJ Clarkson (Dexter, Jessica Jones, Love Nina, Toast) will helm.

Further cast includes Jeany Spark as Sandrine Shaw, Nathaniel Martello-White as DS Nathan Bilk, Vineeta Rishi as DC Rakhee Shah, Rob Jarvis as DC Euan Johnson, Hayley Squires as Laurie Stone, Brian Vernel as Mikey Gowans, Kae Alexander as Linh Xuan Huy.

Collateral spoilers

In the first episode, in South London a young man, Abdullah Asif (Sam Otto), is shot dead delivering a pizza.

The detective in charge, DI Kip Glaspie (Carey Mulligan), quickly discovers that the pizza manager Laurie Stone (Hayley Squires), inexplicably sent Syrian refugee Abdullah instead of regular driver Mikey Gowans (Brian Vernel). At the crime scene, KIP dismisses pushy reporter Robert Walsh (Mark Umbers), and is briefed by her partner DS Nathan Bilk (Nathanial Martello-White).

The killing seems professional, but the only witness – a young woman strung out on drugs on the street corner – gives the police a false name and address. Local MP David Mars (John Simm) arrives to comfort his ex-wife Karen (Billie Piper), the customer of the fatal pizza delivery.

Kip and Nathan track down Abdullah’s home, a set of garages, to find his sisters, Fatima (Ahd Kamel) and Mona (July Namir). The sisters are scared and Kip’s convinced they’re hiding something.

In tonight’s final episode, as dawn breaks, the police are able to use the video footage Fatima (Ahd Kamel) provided to arrest Mehmet (George Georgiou) and Bhuran (Guy List). Nathan (Nathaniel Martello-White) tips off Sam Spence (John Heffernan) about the arrests.

In Westminster David Mars (John Simm) finally faces party leader Deborah Clifford (Saskia Reeves) and is given a final chance to toe the line. But David’s focus is on his private life.
