Channel 4's new drama series Kiri launched to more than 3 million viewers last night.
The four part show stars Sarah Lancashire, Lucian Msamati and Lia Williams. Written by Jack Thorne, the drama concerns a young black girl Kiri (Felicia Mukasa), due to be adopted by a white foster family, who is abducted - and the trail of lies, blame, guilt and notoriety that follows.
The opening episode last night averaged just over 3.2 million viewers. C4 bettered BBC One's offering in the 9PM slot, with Miriam's Big American Adventure averaging just under 3 million.
ITV's Girlfriends however had 4 million viewers but this was significantly down on last week's 5.2 million figure.
In the afternoon, The Chase continued with 3.8 million viewers, down on last week's all time high of 4.4 million.
Over on Channel 5, Celebrity Big Brother had 1.5 million viewers. This was down slightly on Tuesday's 1.6 million but up on last week's equivalent episode.
