Channel 4’s new drama series Kiri launched to more than 3 million viewers last night.

The four part show stars Sarah Lancashire, Lucian Msamati and Lia Williams. Written by Jack Thorne, the drama concerns a young black girl Kiri (Felicia Mukasa), due to be adopted by a white foster family, who is abducted – and the trail of lies, blame, guilt and notoriety that follows.

ITV’s Girlfriends however had 4 million viewers but this was significantly down on last week’s 5.2 million figure.

Earlier on in the evening on ITV, Coronation Street was the most watched show of the day with 7.5 million and 6.4 million for its two episodes. 6.7 million watched Emmerdale.

In the afternoon, The Chase continued with 3.8 million viewers, down on last week’s all time high of 4.4 million.

Over on Channel 5, Celebrity Big Brother had 1.5 million viewers. This was down slightly on Tuesday’s 1.6 million but up on last week’s equivalent episode.
