The Chase hit an all time high on ITV last night for its early evening series.
The game show had over 4.4 million viewers for its latest episode, a record breaking audience for its 5PM slot.
The Chase easily got the better of Pointless which had 3.2 million viewers, becoming one of the most watched shows of the whole day.
It was a good night for ITV with seven of the ten most watched programmes. New drama Girlfriends launched to a strong 5.2 million viewers at 9PM. Earlier in the evening, in the soaps, Coronation Street had 7.2 million and 6.5 million for its two episodes. Emmerdale interested 6.5 million viewers.
Over on BBC One, EastEnders was the channel’s most watched show of the day with 6.2 million viewers.
Elsewhere, Celebrity Big Brother’s latest numbers dropped considerably.
An average of 2.1 million viewers had watched the launch on Tuesday, the lowest rating for a January series of the show.
That number dropped by a third last night to 1.4 million viewers following the start of an all women twist to the series.
Wednesday night’s CBB ratings were down around 500,000 viewers on last year’s first highlights and 800,000 on 2016.
