X Factor 2017: Cheryl will NOT be replacing Simon Cowell tonight

Cheryl won’t be standing in for Simon Cowell on The X Factor 2017 tonight.

Instead there will be no guest judge stepping in for Simon, who is set to miss the opening live show of the series.

The music mogul was taken to hospital yesterday after falling down the stairs at his house.

According to The Sun, Simon is now “unlikely” to take part in at least Saturday’s opening episode.

The X Factor boss has since returned home after being checked over by medics but is not expected to appear in tonight’s show.

“There were some rumours that Cheryl was going to step in for Simon but this isn’t going to be the case,” a source explained.

They went on: “Simon is expected to be fine for Sunday’s show, but right now he needs as much rest as possible – every one knows he’s a workaholic and no one can stop him from returning.”

To accommodate to Simon’s absence, the contestants due to perform this evening and Sunday night have been switched.

As expected, this year will see contestants’ performances split between the two nights.

For the first weekend, the Simon’s Groups and Nicole’s Overs were scheduled to perform on Saturday while Louis’ Boys and Sharon’s Girls were going to sing on Sunday.

However this line up has now apparently been reversed after Simon’s fall.

It’s understood that there will be a separate public vote and up to two eliminations each night, but there won’t be a sing off with the viewer vote alone deciding who goes.

Plus this weekend, Liam Payne and Stormzy will both be performing.

The X Factor 2017 goes live from 8:20PM on ITV on Saturday night.
