Robot Wars 2017 is back tonight with its new series and some big changes on BBC Two.

Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon return to host the most thrilling series of Robot Wars yet, with commentary from the legendary Jonathan Pearce.

The new series features an all new competition format, with a Robot Redemption, plus the biggest battle in Robot Wars History… the Ten Robot Rumble. Ten robots, no time limit, last robot standing, to determine who takes the wildcard and last spot in the Grand Final.

This series we have thirty teams battling it out to take the title. There are a few old favourites alongside new teams fighting in the purpose-built bullet-proof Robot Wars arena in Glasgow.

The arena is even more dangerous for competitors with new hazard “The Fog of War” being added to the “Dial of Doom”. This causes chaos by briefly filling the arena with a dense fog leaving robots covered in a thick mist and vulnerable to attacks from opponents and our deadly house robots Dead Metal, Matilda, Shunt, and Sir Killalot.

Each episode has six teams. We begin with two Group Battles. The winners of these moving straight into the Semi Finals, and the four losers getting another chance to qualify through Robot Redemption.

In the third heat of the new series tonight, Apex, Vulture, Terrorhurtz, Track-Tion, Bucky the Robot and Rapid take to the arena to battle it out for a place in the Robot Wars Grand Final.

Rapid are back with the most expensive robot in the competition. There is also new kids on the block Track-Tion, a school team and the youngest in the series; and Apex, with the biggest spinning bar ever to appear on the show.

As always the battles are overseen by the judges Professor Noel Sharkey, Professor Sethu Vijayakumar and Dr Lucy Rogers from the Robot Wars arena in Glasgow.

The Semi Final winners then battle it out in the heat final, with the winner taking a place in the Grand Final, and the runner up qualifying for the Ten Robot Rumble along with the winner of the new third place playoff.

The Grand Final features the heat winners of the previous five episodes - alongside the winner of the Ten Robot Rumble – returning to battle for the coveted Robot Wars trophy… who will be crowned Robot Wars Champion?

Three… Two… One… ACTIVATE!

Robot Wars continues tonight at 8PM on BBC Two.
