As The X Factor 2017 nears its live show stages there’s been speculation about a wild card twist.
Over the years The X Factor has often had some sort of wildcard, with last year’s show featuring an extra four acts.
They were chosen at the end of the six chair challenge, as each judge chose one more contestant for judges houses for another mentor.
Nicole Scherzinger picked a wild card act for Sharon Osbourne, Simon Cowell chose one for Nicole, Louis Walsh selected one for Simon and Sharon decided on an act for Louis.
In 2015 the wild card twist wasn’t quite so convoluted, with just the one act – Monica Michael – getting a second chance in the live shows after being eliminated at judges’ houses.
Rumour has it that a wild card twist for 2017 will could see FOUR extra acts make the live shows, for a total of 16 contestants.
Quite how this would work and who could be eligible hasn’t been revealed, but viewers have already been campaigning for some contestants.
After Sunday’s six Chair Challenge results in the Boys category, viewers are begging for Benji Matthews to return.
“#XFactor benji for wild card,” demanded one fan of the 17-year-old. A second agreed: “Not happy! @benjisrealmusic benji should be there. He best get the wild card.”
Meanwhile, following Saturday night’s Six Chair Challenge results in the Groups category with Simon Cowell, fans are hoping that Filipino boyband JBK are given another shot.
“A huge mistake Simon! wild card for JBK PLEASE! ? ” one viewer wrote.
The boys themselves teased a potential wild card twist, telling GMA: “Yes, we are hoping to be a wild card. We have so much to offer that people have not seen yet. If given a chance, we will do our best.”
And in the Girls category, fans have been hoping that Nicole Caldwell gets a second shot.
“Hope they bring @NicoleCaldwell_ back as wild card! Love her voice ? #XFactor” one fan posted to Twitter.
Agreed another: “I’d love for @NicoleCaldwell_ to return as an @TheXFactor wildcard! #XFactor”
And a third concurred: “Please @TheXFactor @SimonCowell bring back @NicoleCaldwell_ as a wild card. she was too amazing! #XFactor #wildcard”
For now, judges’ houses awaits the remaining 24 contestants still officially in the competition.
