The drama follows Doctor Gemma Foster. A trusted GP in the heart of her village, the first series saw Doctor Foster’s life explode. When she suspected her husband had been having an affair, Doctor Foster was determined to find out the truth.

She threw herself into an investigation that propelled her, her family, and even some of her patients, into chaos. Bit by bit, Doctor Foster uncovered secrets that shock her to the core.

In the upcoming second series, it's been two years since Doctor Gemma Foster dramatically exposed her husband’s betrayals and he left town.

Doctor Foster Series 2

In tonight's final episode of the new series, Gemma goes to extreme lengths in order to come out on top and win back her old life.

But this time has she gone too far?

After the first series attracted an average consolidated weekly audience of 8.2 million, a second run was confirmed last year.

Mike Bartlett, writer and creator of Doctor Foster, said: "I've been astounded by the response to Doctor Foster. So I'm thrilled that alongside Drama Republic and the phenomenal Suranne Jones, we're now going to tell the next chapter in Gemma's story.

Suranne Jones added: “After discussions with Drama Republic and the wonderful Mike Bartlett I am thrilled to announce we will all be reunited to tell Gemma's next chapter, and I can't wait for the audience who invested in these characters to find out what explosive twists and turns Mike has in store.

"Now we can look into what happens to a woman after divorce, when deceit and revenge have taken their toll. What a gift of a part and a dream to work with Mike again!”
