Simon Cowell has confirmed that The X Factor will see fewer live shows this year.
It was previously reported that The X Factor 2017’s live finals would be cut to just six weeks.
However, there would still be the same amount of performances with contestants singing and being eliminated on both the Saturday and Sunday nights.
While the exact details have yet to be revealed, Simon has confirmed there will be fewer weeks of live shows.
Simon explained: “When you’ve done it for 14 years you can’t keep making the same show every year. I think you have to realise what the contestants are in it for, why do so many people enter?
“I think if you just make the same show each year it becomes boring and predictable.
“So you try and make changes for the better, not everything works but some ideas we’ve got for the live shows are going to be good.”
On the decision to reduce the length of the finals, Simon said: “I just think it’s the way things are in all these shows at the moment.
“The early and middle rounds rate well. So, the idea is to do more of the middle shows and less of the live shows.
“We’ll see if it works or not. I think there might be a middle ground.”
Nicole Scherzinger backed the move: “I love all the changes he’s making. You have to in this day and age, things are moving so fast over social media, you have to be changing with the times.
“You have to evolve. We’re evolving as a show, we want to give the people what they want!”
And in another change, last year’s ‘random’ theme deciding jukebox will be gone.
Nicole raved: “I’m looking forward to not having that jukebox anymore! I don’t want to do it guys. I just want cool, relevant songs that work. I just don’t want the same things over and over. I’m looking forward to the performances.
“I love music, you see how excited I genuinely get when my contestants are up there. I’m excited to mentor and work with my contestants and see how far they will get in this competition.”
The X Factor returns to ITV on Saturday 2nd September and Sunday 3rd September at 8pm.
