Perhaps hoping to replicate the success of Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, Sky will air a new show following the lead up to the end of year prom's at UK schools. The series will follow the months of planning the big dress, hair, make-up and spectacular entrance for what is considered by many to be the biggest event of school life.
Promzillas explores the American prom craze that is taking the UK by storm. Featuring the Prom Squad; make-up artist to the stars Gary Cockerill, top stylist and Gok’s Fashion Fix presenter Brix Smith-Start and celebrity hairdresser Stephen Glendinning, these real life fairy godmothers will be on hand to offer fashion and styling advice, whilst making sure that two real life Cinderellas get to be the belle of the ball.
Promzillas takes us deep into the extreme and colourful world of high school proms. From helicopter entrances, fabulous over the top dresses, fake tan and dazzlingly bling tiaras, the series reveals a snap shot of British teenagers at a crucial rites-of-passage time. Each week, the Prom Squad will visit a different prom around the country offering top tips and advice to the demanding prom divas.
But the Prom Squad’s main task is to take two real life Cinderellas and make their prom dreams come true. These are the girls that can’t afford to buy a new dress, the geeks and misfits, the girls that are shy and have no confidence or the girls that have been bullied throughout their school lives.
Once the transformation is complete and the big event finally arrives, who will be crowned prom king and queen –will the diva Promzillas reign supreme, or will a Cinderella emerge as a swan to steal their thunder? Let the battle commence.
Gary Cockerill commented: “I’m so excited to be part of this show. We met some truly fantastic girls whose make overs gave them inner confidence and transformed how they feel about themselves.”
Brix Smith-Start commented: “The end of year prom really is the biggest night of these young girls’ lives, some have been planning it for years. Expect fabulous dresses, tears, tantrums and heart-warming make overs leading up to the big night itself.”
Stephen Glendinning added: “All we had when I was at school was an end of year disco. I was very surprised at how much money, effort and importance is placed on the prom. Prom-mania is definitely sweeping across the country.”
