Liam Payne battling for Number 1 with debut solo single Strip That Down

Liam Payne is fighting for the top spot in this week's single chart with his debut solo track.

Liam is the fifth and final member of One Direction to release solo music with his effort Strip That Down put out for download and streaming last Friday.

The song, which was co-written by Ed Sheeran and features American rapper Quavo, is at Number 3 in today's mid week chart.

The Official Charts Company reports that it's just 325 equivalent sales behind Number 2, DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne's I'm The One.

Meanwhile, remaining at Number 1 is Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's Despacito remix ft. Justin Bieber.

Liam's debut solo single follows Zayn Malik's Pillowtalk (Number 1), Niall Horan's This Town (Number 9), Louis Tomlinson's Just Hold On (Number 2) and Harry Styles' Sign Of The Times (Number 1).

And on the topic of Harry, last week saw him top the album's chart with his self titled debut album.

His collection sold a total of 57,000 copies across physical, download and streaming equivalent sales across the previous week.

However a double One Direction number 1 on the charts this Friday looks unlikely.

In its second week, Harry's album has dropped down to 3 with Ed Sheeran regaining his place at the top of the charts.

The full Official Top 40 albums and singles charts will be revealed on Friday evening.
