One Direction will definitely be getting back together, Niall Horan has said.
However any reunion may not involve all of the original line up, even after Zayn Malik's exit.
The X Factor group split up back in 2015 for a supposedly short hiatus but a comeback any time soon has been looking increasingly unlikely.
The guys have launched various solo projects over the past 18 months but Niall has assured fans 1D aren't over for good.
“It’s been a year and a bit already. We don’t want to put a time on it. But when that phone call does come, no matter whoever it comes from, we’re back again," he said. "At the minute it’s exactly where it was six months ago — we’re doing our own thing."
Chatting to The Sun newspaper, Niall said no details of the reunion had been worked out yet but it could be that only three of them return to the group.
“I don’t know. I’m guessing so. That’s not a conversation we’ve had," he said.
On the other hand, Niall was hopeful the comeback could go the other way and involve all of original line up - including Zayn.
“Again, a conversation we haven’t had and I’m sure the fans would love it and it would be great but again I don’t know," he shared.
Discussing the reasons for 1D's split in the first place, Niall continued: “It was a long time to keep going at that intensity and that pressure, touring that much and bringing out albums at that pace.
“We felt like we just wanted to either chill or do your own thing... When we called it, it was kind of a release in a way so you could go and see family, see friends, go backpacking.”
Niall will release his new solo single Slow Hands soon with a debut album following later this year.
