Rylan Clark-Neal has hit back at fans of The Chase who are angry over his show replacing the tea time favourite.
Rylan will front new ITV game show Babushka from May 1, replacing The Chase at 5PM on week days for the whole month.
It's led to some of The Chase's dedicated fans getting in quite a huff but Rylan protested today: "I am not cancelling The Chase, it has not been axed. Please stop hurling abuse at me, it's not fair, OK?
He told ITV's This Morning: "I'm just someone doing my job. Everyone this weekend is in uproar that Rylan has 'axed The Chase' to make way for my new show. That's a lie, The Chase has a break every single year guys, calm down.
"It's coming off air for a month - like it always does!"
Chatting to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Rylan went on to joke about The Chase host Bradley Walsh: "Oh I hate him, I slapped him round the face and said: 'You're AXED mate!'
"I love Brad, I love The Chase, I've been on it but it's not aired yet but my new show Babushka is starting next Monday and it's on for a month!."
Rylan previously described his show Babushka as 'Deal Or No Deal with Russian Dolls'.
"That’s the easiest way to explain it," he told BBC's The One show earlier this month. “The difference with Babushka is you have to play the eight dolls, there is no stopping at any point.
“Once you’re in the game, you’re in the game.”
Rylan revealed it was a game of high stakes and there had been tears on set during filming.
"You get a question wrong, open an empty doll or push a doll too far you lose absolutely everything," Rylan explained. “So you could play the worst game, and go home with 10 grand.
"Or you could play the best game and have £20,000 in your account and on your last go, push a doll too far or open an empty doll and you go home with nothing."
Babushka will start on ITV on Monday, May 1 at 5PM.
