X Factor 2017: Simon Cowell's plan to keep the judges the same may not work out

Simon Cowell's hopes of keeping last year's X Factor judges for 2017 has hit a problem.

2016 saw Simon Cowell joined on the panel by Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh in the latest shake up to the show.

The judges line up on The X Factor hasn't stayed the same for more than a year since between 2008 and 2010 when Simon and Louis were joined by Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole.

But - if Simon gets his way - Sharon, Louis and Nicole will all be back this year.

Talking about The X Factor - and sister show Britain's Got Talent - Simon said he had no plans to make any changes.

He said earlier this month: “I don’t think for the moment we’d want to make any changes. It worked on X Factor last year and the Britain’s Got Talent panel works really well."

However while Louis and Sharon have both committed, Nicole has yet to agree a deal.

A source told The Sun: "She loves the show and ended last year indicating she’d be seeing them all same time, same place. But the longer things hang in the air, the more nervous people become.

“Filming is starting in June and and production will sleep easier when she gives Simon her answer.”

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror newspaper last month, Nicole confirmed she had been asked back to The X Factor this year but hadn't decided to say yes just yet.

She declared: "I don't know yet. We’ll see."

Nicole went on: "I might [be back on X Factor]. But I want to get back to creating. Last year I did a lot of TV and I loved it, but I didn’t spend time with the artist in me.

"The idea of doing that excites me more than anything."

Watch this space, folks...

The X Factor will air on ITV in the autumn.
