There's a new favourite to replace Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge has gone to 2/1 from 20/1 to be named TV’s next Time Lord
Bookies Betway are reporting a new favourite in the frame to be named the next Doctor Who, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge plummeting from 20/1 to 2/1 in the past 24 hours.
The English actress is best known for her leading role in six-part British comedy Fleabag and now joins Kris Marshall at the head of the betting at 2/1.
It follows a sustained gamble which forced the leading online bookmaker to cut her price dramatically.
Joint-favourite Marshall has been a long-time fancy to step into the TARDIS at 2/1 and this is the first time in the last month that the My Family star has been rivalled in the betting.
David Harewood, whose appearances range from The Bill and Casualty to roles on the big screen in films such as Blood Diamond and Grimsby, is next in the betting at 6/1.
Betway’s Alan Alger, said: “Phoebe Waller-Bridge is all the rage with the punters at the moment. Her odds of being the next Doctor Who have collapsed from 20/1 to 2/1 since Monday morning and we’re on red alert, keeping an eye out for any more telling bets.
“Kris Marshall remains solid at 2/1, but the sudden rush of support for Waller-Bridge suggests the race to become TV’s next Time Lord is swinging in her favour.”
