X Factor boy group Yes Lad are preparing to drop their debut single after appearing on last year's show.

Five piece boyband Yes Lad is made up of Joel, Cian, Sonny, Lewis and Jake, who got as far as judges' houses on The X Factor in 2016.

Despite a big and dedicated fanbase, groups mentor Louis Walsh controversially decided to ditch them in favour of the likes of Bratavio.

After the setback, Yes Lad are now going it alone without the show and will drop debut single Walk Away next month.

Speaking at the launch of the release, Jake suggested leaving The X Factor was a blessing in disguise.

He explained: “We are more free to do what we want — we can write the songs we want, have the style we want. We’ve got more control.”

Sonny added of their debut single: "We want to bring a bit of fun to the charts because it’s all a bit doom and gloom at the moment. Songs about people’s dead dogs, and stuff like that."

Speaking during their time on The X Factor last year, the boys revealed ambitions of becoming as big as One Direction.

"We'd love to be massively successful and sell loads of albums and have really big shows. But we don't want to be like anyone else who's already been. We wanna be Yes Lad," the guys said.

They added: "There's not been a big Northern band of all Northern members come out for a good while so we thought we'd give it a bash, lad!"

Chatting to the official X Factor website at, Yes Lad went on: "We don't want to be a carbon copy, but we'd like to emulate the success of One Direction. They were massive.

"We're all Northern working class lads. Like, in One Direction they picked five lads from each corner of England, whereas we're all from the same little pot."
