The X Factor 2017 live shows could prove to be very different on ITV this year.
Show bosses are reportedly considering a huge shake up that could see The X Factor become more like Britain's Got Talent.
According to The Sun, the potential plan would see the live stages of the competition reduced to just a few weeks, finishing with a week-long final that airs every night.
"The X Factor executives feel it needs a shake-up with big changes to the format," a source told the tabloid. “They have been discussing having just a few weeks of live shows — so people get to know the singers — and then one big finals week."
The insider claimed: “They think viewers would prefer one week of great TV, with star performers.
“BGT is a huge success, so they could take inspiration from worse places.”
The source also suggested that switching up the live shows would also make the schedule more appealing to potential judges, such as Sharon Osbourne, saving them having to fly in and out of the country week after week.
A spokesperson for The X Factor insisted that no firm decisions about this year's show had been made yet.
They told the tabloid in response to the report: “No decisions have been made about the new series.
"Discussions are ongoing and details will be announced in due course.”
Auditions for The X Factor 2017 are currently underway across the UK with the series expected to begin again on TV around September time.
