X Factor singer Joe McElderry has opened up about being body shamed after a recent TV appearance.

Joe made headlines in the tabloids after appearing on ITV's Lorraine where an unfortunate picture saw him looking rather fuller faced.

"On that day I wasn’t that different to how I am now it’s just an unflattering photo!" Joe hit back.

Speaking on ITV's This Morning, Joe revealed how he had been abused over the unflattering snap.

"I’d never experienced [body shaming] before and I thought it was girls who got the short straw," Joe explained. "I always used to feel sorry about girls, I’d never experienced it in my career before."

Joe's now looking fitter than ever which is a good thing since he's spending most of his days half naked on stage in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

"I hated being in the loin cloth for a couple of weeks," Joe admitted. "After The X Factor I was offered a lot but I said point blank I wouldn’t do a topless photo shoot.

"And then this opportunity came round and I thought 'loin cloth', I can’t do it! But now I’ve become so used to it."

Joe recently performed 'Every Door' from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Tonight At The London Palladium.

Joe is currently touring the UK with the musical, co-starring Britain's Got Talent's Lucy Kay.
