James Arthur has reached out to his fellow X Factor star Jahmene Douglas after a worrying Twitter message.
The pair made the X Factor 2012 final together where James beat Jahmene to win the series.
This week saw Jahmene open up on Twitter about his struggles with depression in a long Twitter post titled "This is me...".
"I don’t know what to do any more," admitted Jahmene in the message to his followers. "My mind is plagued with suicidal thoughts whenever my defences are down.”
He continued: “I feel so broken, lost and worthless. It doesn’t seem to matter how much I try to fix myself, who I talk to or what I put in place it always comes back to this.”
Jahmene concluded his note: “All I am ever left with is the desire to die. I don’t want it, but I do. That’s the inner battle.
"I’m scared the next time I try I will succeed because I have nothing in place any more.”
James, who has himself admitted to battles with depression, was quick to offer support.
“Brother I’m here for you," wrote the X Factor winner. "Answer your phone. I know what you’re going through. Pick up.”
Fans and other stars were also quick to rally and help Jahmene.
Britain's Got Talent's Collabro singer Jamie Lambert posted online: "Love to you @Jahmene - I thoroughly recommend speaking to someone if you haven't already. I have a few numbers you can call if you want x"
